Tiger Softball Splits with 5A Opponents

The JLT Softball team battled to a split on Saturday earning a 17-16 win over Madison before dropping a second game against Bonneville 13-6.

The Tigers knocked out 19 hits in game one including two home runs.  The Tigers and Bobcats traded runs early in the game and entered the top of the 6th inning tied 6-6.  Madison put up 6 more runs in the top of the six to take a commanding lead.  But Jerome answered with five runs of their own in the bottom of the 6th to pull within one.  After holding Madison scoreless in the top of the 7th the Tigers were down to their last out in the bottom of the 7th.  That’s when sophomore Kailey Harrison deposited a solo home run over the right field fence to tie the game at 12.  After a scoreless 8th, Madison again looked to have the game in control putting up 4 runs in the top of the 9th to go up 16-12.  But the Tigers battled back one more time in the bottom of the 9th to score 5, winning the game on a 2 out, RBI triple by senior Baylie Somerset.  Senior Courtney Argyle was 4 for 5 in the game with a double, a home run, and 3 runs batted in.  Argyle was also the winning pitcher.  Harrison was 3 for 4, with a triple, a home run, and 3 runs batted in.

Jerome jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first in game two but was unable to hold on, eventually dropping the game to the Bees.  In game two Wiest was 2 for 4 with a double, senior Abigail Craig was 2 for 4 with a double and 4 runs batted in, and Argyle stayed hot at the plate, going 3 for 3 with a double.  Argyle ended the two game series  with 7 hit in 8 at bats.
