The Jerome Lady Tigers opened the 2016 Great Basin District IV tournament at Twin Falls High School on May 7 by beating the Minico Spartans 19-4 in 4 innings. Ashley Wiest threw the complete game for the Tigers and was also 2-3 on the day with 3 RBIs. Abigail Craig also had two hits in the game and she and Taylor Harrison combined for 6 RBIs. After the Mincio victory the Tigers played the host Bruins, falling 10-7. Jerome battled back after getting down 9-2 early and pulled within 2 runs in the top of the 6th but it was not enough. Taylor Harrison, Ashley Wiest and Abigail Craig all had multiple hits for the Tigers. That loss put Jerome into a loser-out game with Burley on May 10th in Jerome. The Tigers broke open a 2-2 ballgame in the bottom of the 5th on a two run double by Emily Bragg. Bragg later scored on a passed ball to make it 5-2. Abigail Craig reached on a bunt single and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Brooklyn Jackson which gave the Tigers a 6-2 lead. After surrendering one run in the top of the 6th the Tigers ended the game by scoring 7 in the bottom of the 6th. Ashley Weist had a bases clearing 3 RBI double in that inning. Jerome ended the game with back-to-back-to-back doubles by Cailee Bartholomew, Kailey Harrison, and Taylor Harrison. Courtney Argyle pitched a complete game for the victory.
Jerome plays Twin Falls in Twin Falls at 5pm on Thursday for a chance to advance to the district championship game and the state tournament.
