The JLT softball team earned one amazing comeback victory against Twin Falls but ultimately dropped the three game series 2-1, moving to 5-2 on the season.
The Tigers dropped games one and three of the series in similar fashion. In game one, the Tigers battled to a 3-3 draw with the Bruins until the bottom of the 4th where Twin Falls put up five runs to take a 8-3 lead. Jerome battled back to withing 3 at 9-6 before dropping the first game of the series. Sophomore Vivi Ortega led the Tigers at the plate going 2-2 with two runs scored. Senior Emily Bragg also had two hits for the Tigers. Ortega, Junior Kailey Harrison, and Freshman Mercedes Bell each had a triple for the Tigers in the game. Despite a strong start to the game, Junior Tiffany Bryant took the loss in the circle. In the final game of the series, Jerome once again battled toe-to-toe with the Bruins entering the top of the 6th inning down 5-4 before another big Twin Falls inning put the game out of reach. Jerome ultimately dropped the game 9-5. Ortega and Freshman Abriana Hurtado combined for 5 hits on the day while Bragg hit her first home run of the season.
The second game of the series was the bright spot for the Tigers. Despite entering the final inning down 10-3, Jerome pulled off the improbable come from behind victory by scoring 8 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to win 11-10. Sophomore Payton Miller got the Tigers rolling with a bunt single to lead off the inning. The Tigers then sent 10 batters to the plate, stringing together 6 hits and 3 walks before Bragg’s grounder to short scored Ortega from 3rd to win the game.
The Lady Tigers are back in action March 31-April 1 at the Win The Pitch Varsity Tournament in Caldwell. Jerome opens at 9AM Friday against the 5A Hillcrest Knights.
